![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Celebrate some of your favorite moments on YouTube through our official top trending videos of 2015, based on the amount of time people spent watching, sharing, commenting, liking, and more. And just before the holidays. And there’s more. Christmas? Is that why? Or is it the other thing, the peering in through the window thing, the faraway feeling of friendship that, of course, isn’t real? Who knows. But if it’s Joe and the crew, I’ll watch. If this was some American dope-if this was David “Davey Wavey” Wavid doing this with friends, and I was meant to watch that same party five times-I wouldn’t do it. Of course, this is all mostly watchable because, as I’ve stated publicly here in these pages, I am a fan of charming Joe. Looping, recursive, morphing slightly each time. sort of remarkable? In a strange way? It’s like an art project of some kind. The point is, you can watch this party over and over and over again, just from slightly different angles, with different beginnings and endings. Louise vlogged, too, but she didn’t end up in a hotel room with drunk Joe, so it’s not quite as exciting. You can see some of it in his vlog, above. He got drunk at the party and ended the night hanging out in Zoe and Alfie’s room. They all went to a Christmas party and many of them vlogged it. Caspar Lee was at this Christmas party, as was Marcus Butler, and I’m sure many other British YouTube stars were, too. This time with a Christmas party! It’s the same crew- Joe “Thatcher Joe” Sugg, his sister, Zoe “Zoella” Sugg, her boyfriend Alfie “Pointless Blog” Deyes, their friend Louise “Sprinkle of Glitter” Pentland, the whole gang. ![]() Very shrewd.ĭo you remember when, this past spring, I watched five videos of the same surprise party and went insane? Well, it’s been eight months, so it’s time to do it all over again. And probably made thousands and thousands of dollars in the process. Which means mission accomplished, Kian and Andrea. They freaked out so much that “Kian and Andrea” ended up trending. So, a certain little corner of the Internet, one with posters on the walls and the smell of hairspray and deodorant in the air, freaked out. Not as a couple, but on video, kissing, together. And then suddenly, Kian and Andrea were back together. A ripple went out across the Internet and then, well, time marched on. But eventually, as is typical of young romances, they broke up. The story is, they dated for a while, appearing in each other’s videos and seeming very much in love. Anyway, Andrea, of “Kian and Andrea,” is Andrea Russett, another attractive YouTuber, who does sorta similar stuff. He’s a handsome kid who doesn’t really do much on his channel beyond silly stunts and Q&As and whatnot. It was the phrase “Kian and Andrea.” What did it mean? Who are Kian and Andrea? A brief mystery quickly explained: Kian is Kian Lawley, a young YouTuber and former member of the YouTube collective Our 2nd Life who appeared in my dispatch from VidCon this summer. I don’t know what kind of person you are, but if you’re the kind of person who uses Twitter, you may have noticed that yesterday, December 10, there was a particular topic trending. (It both is and it isn’t, dear commenter.) But maybe that is more a reflection of the year the Rewind encapsulates than the Rewind itself? Is the problem really with 2015? Commenters complain that they didn’t get the references in the video, that they didn’t know who anyone was, that YouTube is about more than these mindless, telegenic vloggers. If you scroll down to the comments, you’ll see that lots of people do not like this video! Many say it is the worst YouTube Rewind ever, which is saying a lot. It’s just a whole bunch of stuff, this YouTube Rewind, set to swoony, upbeat pop music. At some point there’s a Mad Max: Fury Road reference because, famously, Mad Max: Fury Road premiered on YouTube. And then we’re on a beach where people are dancing then in a gym where other people are dancing. So you have Lilly Singh jumping into a ball pit on a barge and then Connor Franta’s in the barge, too, for whatever reason. Well, it’s an annual video that celebrates the year in video, featuring some of the biggest stars on the platform, referencing some of the biggest trends, memes, etc. Here, at long last, is the YouTube Rewind for 2015. ![]()
